KU Secures Patent for Smart Room Heater
The University of Kashmir has announced the patenting of its latest technological innovation, the Smart Room Heater Configured to Operate on Low Voltage Under Blanket Usage. This pioneering device is designed to enhance safety and efficiency in home heating, particularly under blanket usage, which poses specific challenges.
The innovation, spearheaded by Sr Assistant Professor Er Rouf ul Alam Bhat, is a collaborative effort involving KU alumni Jehangeer Aurshad and student innovators Simran Hameed, Bazila Farooq, Bazillah Sameen, Seerat Bashir, and Wasifa Saleem. The team has crafted the Smart Room Heater to make homes safer and more risk-free, particularly in cold climates where such devices are essential.The Indian Patent Office granted Patent No 541718 on June 13, 2024, recognising the uniqueness and utility of this invention. The development was supported by the Centre for Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) at the Institute of Technology (IoT), Zakura Campus.
Dr Bilal Ahmad Malik, Coordinator at CIIE, expressed optimism about the future of this technology. “We believe that the patented technology will make a considerable impact, and we look forward to exploring commercial partnerships to bring this innovation to market,” he stated
Er Rouf ul Alam Bhat, the team leader, has a history of innovative achievements and is recognized internationally by experts and scientists. He emphasized the importance of creative thinking in solving everyday problems and encouraged students to adopt an out-of-the-box approach to innovation
